Two-Stroke pipes, Hand Built, Stamped and Hydro-Forming

Hydro Formed Pipes VS.

Hand Built Pipes and

Stamped Pipes

Very often in the pursuit of a new tuned pipe system, a potential customer will ask “What is Hydro-Forming”.  The Nemesis Hydro-Form process which we call “Free Form Hydro-Forming” is unique in that tooling is not required and lead times are short.  Also a design can be changed quickly without a major cost penalty.  A Hydro-Formed pipe can be recognized by a small smooth weld seam around the edge of the pipe.  Also the surface of the pipe is smooth without any obvious steps or abrupt dimensional changes.

The manufacturing process is simple and quick.  The pipe design is constructed in the computer with our own custom software.  A computer cutting file is sent to a sheet metal Cutter (laser).  Two exact metal sheets are cut in the shape of the design.  Next these two sheet metal parts are fused together with a custom semi robotic welder.  The metal sandwich is then hooked up to a water pump, placed in a simple low pressure press and blown up like a water balloon.  The blown shape (pillow) is finished off at each end, painted and we now have a tuned pipe for your favorite hi-performance two-stroke go fast machine.

What is a hand built pipe?   The hand built pipe uses pre formed and constructed cones and cans.  The cones and the cans are welded, cut and welded many times to get them in a shape that will fit in or on the vehicle.  They are labor intensive, expensive and often compromised in design to get them to fit.  They are easy to recognize as they have many weld seams around the pipe.

What is a stamped pipe?    A stamped pipe is made up of two more stampings formed with a press and a die.  The two formed pipe halves are welded together at a lip on the edge of each half of the pipe stamping.  The Process is inflexible and needs to make a number of pipes to justify the tooling cost.  The stamping process stretches the metal into thinner and weaker sections.   A stamped pipe can be recognized by the flat lip or seam along the outside edge of the pipe.
